Provided Services

Our services at Reading Home and Community Supportive Services are shaped by the core values; respect and dignity.

We understand the decision to invite a caregiver into your home is an important one. Reading Home and Community Supportive Services works with you by providing caregivers who are best suited to your individual situations.

Once the selection is made and care begins, we will continually assess your needs to ensure that you and your family are satisfied with the care provided. We value communication and will do our utmost to guarantee your satisfaction. At Reading Home and Community Supportive Services, compatibility matters.

Reading Home and Community Supportive Services provides a wide range of home care services. Our caregivers provide quality care to meet your particular needs. We also provide live-in services and non-skilled services to individuals in their homes or other independent living environments.

Meal Preparation

Our caregivers can help plan and prepare nutritious meals, prepare grocery lists, and go to the grocery store with the client or on behalf of the client. We will clip coupons, shop for advertised specials, check on the food supplies in the home, and dispose of old or spoiled food. We can prepare the food, involving the client in appropriate tasks, and can help to feed those people who have a hard time on their own. We will encourage clients to eat well-balanced meals and to drink plenty of fluids. When requested, our caregivers can plan and prepare meals that meet special dietary needs.

Some studies show that more than half of seniors living at home are either undernourished or malnourished. Causes include eating too little, not getting the proper nutrients, food not being absorbed into the body, and depression. Our caregivers can help prevent this extremely dangerous problem that affects so many seniors.

Companionship

Our caregivers often become lifelong friends with their clients, developing deep relationships through conversation, eating and running errands together, going on outings, visiting friends, playing cards, doing puzzles, reading, gardening, baking, scrapbooking, and engaging in other stimulating and enriching hobbies and activities.

Even a few hours a day of companionship improves the quality of life of most people. Seniors are less likely to experience loneliness, depression and boredom when someone is by their side.

Caregivers are available for hospital stays, including overnights, and can help a client get home safely and comfortably after being discharged.

Activity and exercise are essential to both physical and mental health by not only increasing stamina, lowering blood pressure, making the heart stronger, and improving sleep, but also by relieving stress and improving moods and alertness. Whenever appropriate, our caregivers can incorporate light exercise into a client’s daily routine. This may include activities such as swimming, stretching, and going for walks outside to get fresh air and sunshine. Caregivers can motivate, supervise, and accompany clients as they improve their physical and mental health.

Our caregivers can help clients wake up in the morning, wash and bathe, manage oral and dental hygiene, shampoo and style hair, and get dressed in clean, appropriate clothing.

Likewise, we can provide assistance in preparing the client and bedroom for nighttime, including help with undressing, getting into bed, tucking in, making sure the room is at the right temperature, and making sure that there is an ample amount of fluid by the night stand.

In regard to restroom use, caregivers follow the care plan and are able to provide whatever assistance is needed. These personal care services are handled with the utmost sensitivity, and the personal preferences of the client are respected.

Our caregivers can run errands for a client or with a client. We can drive clients to the grocery store, to appointments, to visit friends, or to go shopping. When requested, caregivers can coordinate and schedule appointments, as well as aid in the communication between the client, family members and the health professional. Our caregivers always strive to create and maintain a clean and safe environment in the client’s home. In the kitchen, we can clean and sanitize the kitchen sink, counter tops, appliances, dishes, pots and pans and the floor. In bathrooms, we can clean and sanitize bathroom sinks, showers, tubs, toilets and the floor.

Throughout the house, we can dust, vacuum, empty trash, change linens, make beds and straighten up rooms. We also do laundry, iron, fold and put away clothing, care for houseplants, water the garden, organize the mail and take letters to be mailed.

A safe environment also includes keeping walkways and pathways clear, keeping harmful products out of reach, as well as watching for other safety hazards that might occur.
